Most cadaver and some live donor organ transplants manifest a degree of early dysfunction. In some cases they meet arbitrary criteria for delayed graft function (DGF), while others have ‘slow graft function’ (SGF) – impaired function which fails to meet DGF criteria. On November 10 and 11, 2000, 60 transplant clinicians met in Scottsdale to discuss the problem of early dysfunction of renal transplants – its pathology, causes, consequences, and management.
