Summary Brown's recent contribution to the valuation accuracy debate raises both technical and philosophical questions about the relationship between value and price. While endorsing Brown's call for more rigour, this paper calls into question the formulation of regression‐based defences of the valuation process and the assumptions about market efficiency on which they are based.
