Although, according to the Menxel-Evans classification of solar prominences, bright surges at the limb (BSL) should be typical phenomena of the activity centers, observations show the existence of polar BSL. During the period July 1,1957-December 31, 1964, 6 per cent of the observed surges were polar (latitude > 50 . It is shown that the polar BSL have been more frequent at the minimum of solar activity where (1) the intensity of the polar magnetic fields reaches maximal values; (2) the polar faculae are more frequent; (3) the polar coronal rays are visible.
