Some Results in Optimization of Nonhierarchic Systems

Abstract

Practical difficulties that are inherent to the solution of optimization problems by nonhierarchic decomposition are discussed. The study is motivated by design problems that require the optimization of a system comprised of several, tightly coupled subsystems or components. A strategy for the optimization of such problems is presented. Examples are provided for illustration.
