Anderson and colleagues have presented criteria for the diagnosis of acoustic neuroma. These criteria are based on the threshold level of the stapedius reflex and on its rate of decay. Normally hearing subjects and a hearing impaired population suffering from sensory peripheral hearing loss were investigated. Both populations gave very high false positive scores by the criteria.
