Abstract

A radioimmunoassay for the direct measurement of renin has been developed using antibodies raised against purified mouse submaxillary renin. This method was employed to measure renin in mouse plasma, submaxillary glands and saliva under various experimental conditions. Renin values obtained by this immunoassay procedure correlate closely to those observed by bioassay. The concentration of radioimmunoassayable submaxillary gland renin in mice is androgen dependent. This method provides a direct, rapid and highly sensitive measurement of renin and thus could be used in further physiologic studies on the kidneys and submaxillary glands.
