A minimal set of augmenting equations is given so that general parameter dependent problems together with these equations will be nonsingular at points of simple rank deficiency. Applications to determining turning points, bifurcation points and constrained optima are presented. The numerical solution of the equations using variants of Newton’s method is also discussed.
