Numerical integration experiments with a primitive equation model in isentropic coordinates are performed to investigate the influence of orography on cyclone formation. Results obtained in the presence of an isolated mountain in a baroclinic channel are shown. An ideal simplified experiment reproducing cyclogenesis in the lee of the Alps is also presented.
