Abstract β-cyclodextrin derivatives having azido, amino and bioactive galactosylamido spacer functions were tested for haemolytic effect and compared with that of hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin. The cyclodextrin coupled to the bioactive saccharide galactose via a spacer and which has bio-recognition properties for cell-wall lectin shows an extremely reduced haemolytic effect.
