In Brief Editor's note This is part of an ongoing series of columns from nurses at the University of Washington that will examine in depth the research related to critical care practices. This article reviews the effect of noise on critically ill patients and presents evidence-based strategies to which nurses can actively contribute to protect patients from noise.
