Small doses of fentanyl or sufentanil (synthetic opioids) added to bupivacaine (local anesthetic) for spinal anesthesia for cesarean section reduce the need for intraoperative antiemetic medication and increase the duration of analgesia in the early postoperative period compared with placebo.
