Abstract

SUMMARY Sixty‐three different plants, from a wide range of families, were tested for their effects on germination of sclerotia of Sclerotium cepivorum. Germination was stimulated only by members of the genus Allium. Water extracts of Allium species also stimulated germination of sclerotia, but extracts of other plants, and a number of nutrient solutions, had little effect. There was no evidence of inhibition of sclerotial germination by plants which failed to elicit a germination response.
