Exact multilayer waveguide design including absorbing or metal layers

Abstract

Multilayered slab waveguides with absorbing or metal layers have complex propagation constants. A novel and exact numerical procedure is introduced for finding these. The procedure is validated on a model useful in device applications, with metal cladding and a buffer layer.
