Arranging for appropriate housing is a crucial but often difficult problem in later life. Findings of a descriptive study suggested that home sharing between individuals offered a viable alternative for a segment of the older population. Results revealed that economy, companionship, and need for services were important motivating factors but that most shared living arrangements were of short duration. More descriptive and demographic data are needed to understand critical variables as well as professional practices affecting this potential resource.
