Abstract

A patient with ruptured renal arteriovenous fistula was anuric and in shock when admitted to the hospital. After hemodialysis to reverse and control hyperkalemia and azotemia, nephrectomy was successfully performed. Clinical evidence favored either an infectious or a vascular degenerative etiology of the fistula. Survival beyond six years is recorded.
