Abstract It was found that the efficiency of photocatalytic killing of cancer cells with TiO2 particles under aerial condition was increased by adding superoxide dismutase (SOD). This enhancement effect of SOD was suppressed when catalase, hydrogen peroxide scavenger, was added to the system. These results can be reasonably explained by the efficient conversion of photogenerated superoxide anion into hydrogen peroxide with the aid of SOD.
