The variation of electrical conductivity of MgO single crystals is measured as a function of temperature over the range from 300° to 1500°K. Heat pre-treatment is found necessary to stabilize the results at high temperatures. Assuming that the conductivity is electronic and intrinsic the energy gap between the full and conduction band is found to be 4.6 eV.
