The high-current vacuum arc in an axial magnetic field: An experimental investigation

Abstract

A spectroscopic study of the plasma parameters of a high-current vacuum arc in an axial magnetic field shows that the interaction of the particles in the arc is collisional. A previously suggested pressure drop is found to exist. The pressure buildup in the arc may be influenced significantly by ion-neutral friction.
