A formula is commonly found in the literature, relating the specific compliance of a blood vessel to its geometrical dimensions and to the elastic properties of its wall material. By a close recapitulation of all assumptions made in the derivation it is shown this formula is incorrect. A correct way for the derivation in the general case is mentioned and the resulting correct formula is given. The condition in which a blood vessel in situ is surrounded by soft tissue with elastic properties is discussed.
