Abstract

Measurements have been made of the ionization cross section for protons incident on hydrogen gas in the energy range 0.15-1.10 Mev. The experimental cross section in this region can be represented by ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{i}=(3.45\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.20){E}^{\ensuremath{-}(0.874\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.010)}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}17}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{2}$/molecule, where $E$ is the incident proton energy in Mev. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with a Born approximation calculation, which is discussed.
