Abstract Isotopic fractionation in HPLC can be observed for mianserin when deuterated in the piperazine ring, except on position 14b. This isotope effect is caused by an increase in basicity upon introduction of deuterium. No effects of deuteration on the conformation of the molecule could be detected.
