Preparation of Optically Pure ω-Hydroxymethyl Lactams

Abstract

Abstract Thermal cyclization of L-glutamate and L-α-aminoadipate to the corresponding lactam esters can be achieved without racemization. LiBH4 reduction of the esters provides optically pure hydroxymethyl lactams.
