P‐68: Fabrication of Defect Free FLCDs Using Photo‐Alignment and Their Performance Characteristics

Abstract

Abstract Photoalignment technique has been applied for fabricating a zig‐zag defect‐free FLCD by using polyimide RN‐1199, −1286, −1266 (Nissan Chem. Ind.) and adopting oblique irradiation of unpolarized UV light. It is shown that among them RN‐1199 is the best for fabricating defect‐free cell, but RN‐1286 needs a low energy to produce a photoaligned FLC phase. Anchoring energy and EO performance characteristics are measured on FLCD cells prepared by rubbing and photoalignment.
