Reactions of 1,1-Disubstituted Alkenes with Acetoacetamides and Molecular Oxygen in the Presence of Manganese(III) Acetate

Abstract

Abstract The reactions of 1,1-disubstituted ethenes with acetoacetamide or N-substituted acetoacetamides, and molecular oxygen in the presence of manganese(III) acetate gave a mixture of c-4- and t-4-carbamoyl-3-methyl-1,2-dioxan-r-3-ols in good yields. Effects of substituents in the alkenes as well as in the carbamoyl group in the acetoacetamides were observed. Stereochemistry and the reactivity of the 4-carbamoyl-3-methyl-1,2-dioxan-3-ols are discussed.
