Abstract

The commutation relations between fields representing different particles are not, as has been suggested, arbitrary. In general, only certain types of commutation relations are compatible with a specified Hamiltonian. The restrictions on the commutation relations - arising from the requirement of canonical invariance of field theory - are derived.
