Abstract

CdS nanofilms were directly synthesised on Al2O3 substrates via a simple solvothermal method with biomolecule L-cysteine assisted. The phase, morphology and composition of the as prepared CdS products were investigated by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscope respectively. The results showed that the as prepared CdS nanofilms exhibit hexagonal phase, FESEM observations revealed that the CdS nanofilms had a continuous and dense morphology and the average diameters were ∼60 nm. Compared with the CdS crystalline composed by nanorods obtained without substrates, the growth of CdS nanorods on substrate is more uniform. Photoluminescence properties of CdS crystalline and nanofilms deposited on Al2O3 substrate were studied. Moreover, a possible formation mechanism of the CdS nanostructures and their evolution were discussed.
