Abstract

Abstract The use of X-ray computed tomography scanning with a dual scan technique to study gas storage and transport in Devonian shales is investigated. Dynamic scanning experiments are performed at various gas pressures. Krypton gas is used as the saturating fluid, and its validity in modeling natural gas storage is discussed. Direct evidence of condensed gas in the Devonian shale is presented, and the role of fractures and shale constituents on gas storage and transport is elucidated.
