N the classification of malignant epithelial I tumours of the uterine cervix, two histological types are usually described, namely, sqnamous-cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. T h e site of origin of cancer of the uterine cervix is believed to be near the 0 s histologicum,lG and, although in this situation there are both normal squamous and columnar elements, the vast majority of cervix carcinomas are squamous in type. Norris reported 542 (5.7 per cent) adenocarcinonias amongst 9509 cases of cervix cancer; Liniburg and Thomsen found sixty-five (3 per cent) amongst 2194 cases.
