Abstract During the last several decades, many investigators have studied the effects of high pressure on various metallic and geological materials. The observed effects include permanent or reversible changes in physical properties [1–5], changes in mechanical behavior [6–11], creation of new forms of materials [12–17], and synthesis of known, but difficult to produce materials [18, 19].
