It is an antibiotic mixture of two isomers that share the same antibacterial and pharmacologic principles (1) and that has been isolated by Weinstein and coworkers (2) from two previously undescribed microorganisms of the genus Micromonospora. These two species are calledMicromonospora pupurea n. sp. andMicromonospora echinospora n. sp. Gentamicin has been extensively investigated in our laboratory and in a number of patients, several of whom received careful pharmacologic studies at the Clinical Research Center of the...References1.
