Abstract

The author calculates the electronic density of states, plasma frequency, conductivity and several other properties of the two-dimensional electron gas (2D EG) at the AlGaAs/GaAs heterojunction when it is subject to a weak periodic potential. Since this system is realisable, and the strength of the periodic potential can be varied, many of the observable phenomena associated with the 2D EG can be tuned. Effects of temperature, magnetic fields and disorder are also considered.
