Abstract

These observations suggest that suppression of the anabolic activity of chondrocytes in the upper zones contributes to the metabolic imbalance observed in OA cartilage. Stimulation of matrix anabolism in superficial chondrocytes might be a suitable target for therapeutic intervention.
