Abstract Alternative methods for simulation of ZLC chromatography behaviour are presented. The phenomena of accumulation in the fluid phase, non‐linearity of the adsorption isotherm and inlet concentration disturbance are analysed. Models for pure diffusion and barrier limited sorption kinetics for the ZLC chromatography are compared. In addition the asymptotic behaviour of the model solutions for small times is examined.
