An effective sorting method for facility layout construction

Abstract

Abstract In this study, facility layout methods are reviewed and classified. This includes the formal mathematical approaches, heuristic methods and expert systems. A new heuristic method is described which provides a direct method to construct a layout for futher improvement. A criterion for assessing the quality of the layout is also proposed. Case studies are presented to illustrate the method and highlight its performance as a method for layout construction.
