Y0.78Yb0.20Er0.02F3 is introduced into the TiO2 photoanode in a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). Y0.78Yb0.20Er0.02F3 improves infrared light harvesting via up-conversion luminescence and thus increases the photocurrent. Yb3+/Er3+ elevates the energy level of the TiO2 electrode and thus increases the photovoltage.
