Abstract. An antibody has been detected in the serum of a female patient which reacts specifically with cell samples from Le(a‐b‐) persons who are non‐secretors of H substance. It has been decided to call the antibody anti‐Le c and the corresponding antigen Le c . The antibody reactions are independent of the ABO group of the test red cells. Inhibition tests revealed the presence of Le c substance in salivas from Le(a‐b‐) non‐secretors and to a lesser extent in saliva from Le(a+b‐) persons and Le(a‐b‐) secretors. The finding of this antigen and that of Le d extends the Lewis system from one represented on the red cells by two antigens to one of four antigens.
