Abstract

A statistically significant reduction in the neurosurgical postoperative infection rate was achieved by using an intraoperative antibiotic regime comprising intramuscular gentamicin and intravenous vancomycin. The operations were all major and clean. The prophylactic antibiotic regime was shown to be entirely safe. (Neurosurgery 8:669-671, 1981)
