A new method for cutting the mouth‐parts of feeding aphids, and for collecting plant sap

Abstract

ABSTRACT. A technique is described for cutting the mouth‐parts of feeding aphids with a radio frequency probe, and for collecting plant sap from the severed ends of the stylets without contamination. The technique is a significant improvement on previous methods used, and will allow reliable quantitative analysis to be made of plant sap on which the aphids feed.
