Cell Origin of Collagenase in Normal and Wounded Corneas

Abstract

Collagenase was not produced in detectable quantities by the normal rabbit cornea. However, the corneas with full thickness wounds did produce enzyme. The epithelium contributed the great majority of the enzyme, and the production appeared to be triggered by an interaction with the stromal wound.
