Winds between 60 and 110 kilometers

Abstract

Abstract : Stereoscopic photographs have been made of the exhaust trail of the second stage rocket of Project Shotput. The wind profile on the dif ferent days between approximately 60 and 110 km has been evaluated. Winds of 200 m/sec and wind shears of about 100 m/sec per km have been found. The photographs also show evidence of turbulence in these layers. It is suggested that further investigations be made on a synoptic basis. (Author)
