Abstract

In this study, the authors investigate geometrically based statistical channel models for outdoor and indoor propagation environments. These models idealise the scatterers laying on a hollow-disc centred around the mobile station with these scatterers concentrating in a uniformly shaped spatial density. The joint probability density functions (pdfs) of angle of arrive (AoA)/time of arrive (ToA) and the marginal pdfs of AoA and ToA are derived using a simple approach, and all formula results are in explicit closed-form expressions. By varying the hollow-disc's thickness, these spatial models degenerate to the well-known ring or circular-disc models, revealing the comprehensive insight on the hollow-disc geometrical model. Comparisons between our theoretical calculations and customary results show that the analyses are correct and applicable to both outdoor and indoor environments.
