Desingularization of embedded excellent surfaces

Abstract

A gap in Hironaka's proof [5] and [6, Introduction] of desingularization of surfaces based on the study of Newton polyhedra may be filled.Indeed, in [5], only the case of a trivial residual extension is studied.
