Cecropia Vitellogenin: Isolation and Characterization

Abstract

The sex-limited blood protein, vitellogenin, of the silkmoth <it>Hyalophora cecropia</it> was isolated by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose employing a Tris-citrate buffer system, and chemical and physical measurements have been performed on the purified product. It was found to be a lipophosphoprotein with a molecular weight of 500,000.
