Abstract The distribution of Tinuvin 328 [2‐(2′‐hydroxy‐3,5′‐di‐ tert ‐amyl phenyl)benzo‐triazole] in isotactic polypropylene was studied by means of ultraviolet microscopy. Whereas Tinuvin 328 is uniformly dispersed in noncrystalline polypropylene (atactic or molten isotactic polymer) a certain distribution pattern is generated in the course of crystallization; the details of this pattern depend on a number of factors such as rate of cooling, fraction of noncrystalline polymer, etc. The main feature of the distribution pattern is that Tinuvin 328 is accumulated in the noncrystalline regions within and between polypropylene spherulites and rejected by crystalline regions.
