Abstract

Hypoglycaemia, as judged by adult standards, has been recorded by the majority of those responsible Control of Carbohydrate Metabolism The elucidation of carbohydrate control in the mature organism is incomplete but the present knowledge of it has been stated by Long (1952) and Talbot, Sobel, McArthur and Crawford (1952). From these reviews of a very great deal of animal and human investigation it is apparent that the sugar-fat-nitrogen hormone (11-17 oxycorticoster- oids) plays an important part in maintaining the blood sugar level. From Fig. Deficiency of this hormone results in hypoglycaemia, increased tolerance of sugar and sensitivity to insulin, while an increased production leads to directly opposite conditions. The sugar- fat-nitrogen hormone is produced by the adrenal 519
