Photonic millimetre- and sub-millimetre-wave generation using J-band rectangular-waveguide-output uni-travelling-carrier photodiode module

Abstract

A compact uni-travelling-carrier photodiode module with a rectangular-waveguide output port for operation in the J-band (220–325 GHz) has been developed. The fabricated module exhibits an output power as high as 134 µW at 264 GHz for a photocurrent of 26 mA. Fundamental mode signal generation by a photodiode module at frequencies in the sub-millimetre-wave range (>300 GHz) is demonstrated for the first time.
