Abstract

Abstract The use of digital interfaces for monitors, in particular LCD displays, has expanded tremendously in the past year. While the progress has been dramatic, it has been restrained by the perception that there are competing standards. This paper describes the work of the Digital Display Working Group, DDWG, comprised of major companies in the display and systems industries. The output of the DDWG is a new specification, the Digital Visual Interface, or DVI. This paper describes the structure and scope of this standard, contrasts it with existing digital standards, and it will highlight some of its salient technical points.
