Mass spectra of diterpene resin acid methyl esters

Abstract

Abstract The mass spectra of 35 tricyclic, diterpene resin acid methyl esters were examined. It was found that unsaturation substantially influenced the initial fragmentation. The carbomethoxy group is readily eliminated, with the positive charge usually being retained in the cyclic fragment. No significant differences were noticed among stereoisomers.
