Coupled equations for the interlayer phase differences in Josephson-coupled layered superconductors are derived in both current-biased and voltage-biased cases. These equations have a solution corresponding to the longitudinal Josephson plasma propagating along the c axis. Using the numerical solutions for the systems composed of 100 junctions, we calculate the I-V characteristics of the Josephson-coupled layered superconductors in the absence of an external magnetic field. Various types of I-V characteristics reflecting the dynamics of the phase differences are obtained. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
