T of meningeal leukemia have been reported in detail in previous publications from this institution.4r9 T h e patient group used in those studies consisted of the first 150 patients with acute leukemia admitted to the National Cancer Institute from 1953 to 1958. Of the 150 patients, central nervous system material for pathologic examination was available in 117. Since that time, not only has the clinical awareness of the meningeal leukemia syndrome increased, but the value of intrathecal aminopterin also has been demonstrated by several favorable reports in the literature.?, 8,149 15 For these reasons, follow-up clinical and pathologic study of meningeal leukemia in a more recent group of patients with acute leukemia seemed indicated. T h e comparison of results obtained in this later series with findings in the previously reported series form the basis of this report.
